“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”
Romans 8:28
Fourteen years ago we started this little farmers market business that five years ago turned into a brick-and-mortar in beautiful downtown Noblesville.
About a year ago my husband Gerry and I started the conversation of future plans for Texy Mexy and for me (Sophie). We've been thinking about what is best for not only taking an opportunity to make a wise business decision but also my health. At age 64, even though I still believe I can work circles around everyone around me, my knees and sometimes lower back tell me otherwise. Making a decision to step away from a job that is more a passion is not easy. Proactively taking care of myself and not ending up with health challenges in the future is the wisest thing to do.
The downtown Noblesville community is unique. I consider it an extreme blessing to be a part of the extraordinary restaurant owners and shop merchants in this community. The support we have for each other is special. I am grateful. We know we are in a prime location in downtown Noblesville with all the economic growth. As much as I love cooking for you all and I will miss it, at the end of the day I'm a business person making a timely business decision.
We've been waiting for some things to fall into place before announcing that we will be closing our doors on December 28th. When things happen in God's timing there is peace in tough decisions. This transition is timely and right. I cannot thank you, our loyal customers enough for so many years of supporting us. Some of you have been with us since the farmers market days. Some have been in regularly that you are now like family. We want to see you before we close. Come dine in and let us see your faces. I may cry but you can cry with me.
What's next for Sophie? I'm not sure... you may still find me around the downtown community maybe taking on some volunteering opportunities I've not had time for, serving and connecting at my church more, maybe still continuing kitchen work but more on a part-time schedule. Getting to travel more is surely a plan which is what Gerry and I love to do.
I want to express a big THANK YOU to Kurt Meyer who has represented us in finding the perfect new tenant to take on 818 Logan Street. Professional, of great integrity and ethics, is how I would describe Kurt. We highly recommend his services. Noblesville is fortunate to have him.
I'm sure the question is, who will take over the space? Well, it's not for us to announce. That will be their privilege. I can assure you that the new tenant is wonderful and they will be perfect for downtown Noblesville. We are excited for their opening and will definitely be there to support them.
Logistics:
Our team has been informed of our closing and we intend to take great care of them as they finish up the year with us. We are committed to helping them find employment as needed. If you have leads, let us know.
Caterings and events - If you have a scheduled catering or event with us in December, we will fulfill the arrangements made. No worries.
Gift Cards - We are no longer selling gift cards. We know Christmas time is a huge gift card-selling season, so we apologize. If you have outstanding gift cards we ask that you come in and use them by December 28th. We will not refund already purchased gift cards, we encourage you to use them, please.
Texy Mexy had its purpose and time. We've not only served and fed so many for 14 years, we've created a place of sustainability for our team and hopefully, a space for the community to feel blessed.
Tearful and grateful,
Sophie

My name is Sophie Abell. I am a native Texan, born in Uvalde, Tx., south of San Antonio and I lived in Fort Worth most of my life.
In June 2006 I moved to Noblesville, IN to marry my love. I come from a large family of six. I love to create new dishes in the kitchen and share my creations with my family and others.
While growing up, I was constantly in the kitchen learning to cook and help my mother make many authentic Mexican family meals. The love I have for cooking and entertaining I received from my dad. He would greet our guests into our home and head straight into the kitchen to prepare a meal for them.
What is known as “Sophie’s Salsa,” I received the recipe from a lady from Mexico many years ago. I sold my salsa for 20 years in Texas. The salsa is “award-winning” in two categories at the Noblesville Farmer’s Market Salsa Contest in the Fall of 2006, in both the HOT and Medium categories!
In 2018, Sophie’s Salsa won first place in the Salsa For Salsa competition at Federal Hill Commons for Cinco de Mayo, beating out thirteen other restaurants and catering companies.
I learned how to make homemade tamales from my mother. She made traditional pork tamales. Texy Mexy offers not only pork but also chicken tamales, queso blanco & green chiles, black bean and corn, roasted butternut squash, among others.
